Crossing Over
I’ve crossed over to the other side
without a bridge, without a map.
I wish I could tell you how,
leave a detailed set of instructions
so it would be easier for you
and you wouldn’t have to suffer.
She asked me to let go,
leave everything behind.
To walk on water you must
take one step at a time,
trusting that the next
stepping stone will appear.
She was right.
Desire is not just about
reaching the other side.
It’s about resting
between movement,
exhaling to inhale,
trusting the next breath,
the next step
towards something
that is already here
when the perception
of distance
and depth
is challenged.
