Mindfulness and compassion practices have changed me. Other beings are no longer my friends or enemies, but mirrors reflecting my spaciousness and limitations. To imagine a different world, I must make space in my heart for all. It’s a tall order, but a necessary one. To this end, may these poems inspire us to make space within, so we can meet external chaos and confusion with understanding, with love.

Let's explore the edges of our vulnerability together and not get sucked in its black hole, holding on to each other's hands, holding on to each other's hearts in a circle of endless compassion. No story is too tragic, too tender in the light and space of shared awareness. It is a novel written by us all-- the chapters changing, characters, settings, and plots variable. But suffering is all the same, believing you are a separate star when you always belonged to this solar system-- this darkness, this light. A collection of mindful contemplations and compassion practices born from years of living with fear. The journal does not promise a surefire way to end fear. Rather, it is an invitation to explore the facets of fear and poetic possibilities for peace. It is a journal of holding fear tenderly to transform it, to find out what it can become. There is lots of journal space between the contemplations and practices to reflect, write, draw, etc. “This journal is a beautiful meditation guide, an invitation to transform your relationship with fear. It is full of healing wisdom, done with simplicity, grace.” -Tara Brach, Ph.D., author of Radical Acceptance and True Refuge “These pages are a poetic invitation to a new relationship with yourself and with the emotion of fear. Allowing yourself to be touched by the imagery, to reflect upon it, and then to practice the ancient techniques offered here will surely transform your life.” -Christopher Germer, Ph.D., author of The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion “All things transform into their wisdom nature when given the opportunity. In Holding Fear Kaveri offers us a beautiful way to experience this transformation for ourselves. She skillfully weaves the wisdom from her years of dancing with fear into her poems and contemplations so that we, too, may find our own new dance with fear through courage, peace, and surrender. Come see for yourself!" -Dori J. Langevin, Psy.D., Buddhist meditation teacher “With her poignant poems and compassionate contemplations, Kaveri Patel invites us on a journey inward, back home to ourselves. Her writings speak to us across the ages, reminding us of the importance of embracing unpleasant states, such as fear, and turning our loving attention gently towards unclaimed parts of ourselves. Patel’s wisdom is deep and her courage is clear. Her journal makes a lovely gift for anyone and everyone on a conscious path through life.” -Jaclyn Long, MFT, founder & director, Mind Body Spirit Moms Do you crave the contemplative, creative life but feel you just don't have enough time for it? Rumi asked, "Do you pay regular visits to yourself? Don't argue or answer rationally. Let us die, and dying, reply." Give yourself or someone else the gift of space and silence.
This journal contains 11 poems accompanied by photography and artwork to nurture your contemplation and inspire creativity. There are blank pages between poems to journal, doodle, or draw. May this journal help you to be the space that surrounds you, wide open to receiving all of your experiences with care. Playing big isn't about a big name but inhabiting the space, the version of you that will last through infinity and beyond. Announcing: The Voice, my third book of poetry!
I hear a voice in meditation and yoga, while driving, and sometimes on the edge of sleep or when I awake. Is it the voice of the Buddha, Kwan Yin, Gaia, my ancestors, or the voice within? I do not know. I do know this. The more I listen, the more I heal. The more I heal, the more I trust. The more I trust, the more I love. The more I love, the more I experience true happiness independent of any external circumstance. May you hear the voice. May you heal, trust, love, and experience true happiness. It is your birthright. Listen to show 97 “Listening to The Voice: a conversation with Kaveri Patel” here. Listen to "The Voice" - An Interview with Poet, Kaveri Patel at Meditate Like a Girl here. |

A heartfelt collection of sensitive and mindful poems on universal themes of self-compassion, the Sacred Feminine, forgiveness, attunement, kindness, and faith. They are the author’s attempt to uncover that spark of divinity within each and every one of us that is often eclipsed by fear, aversion, or doubt.
“Kaveri's words remind us of precious truths we know, yet easily forget. These beautiful poems are meditations on the love and beauty, the sorrow and mystery that compose our lives. Read them slowly and savor them; you'll find they are a pathway home.” -Tara Brach, Ph.D., author of Radical Acceptance “Kaveri Patel has created a poetic meditation on self-compassion, a collection of sensitive and mindful poems that speak of human themes in a universal context. Her poems have the potential to heal broken hearts, awaken and mirror back our inner beauty, and remind us of what’s important in this precious life.” -Danna Faulds, author of Go In and In & Into the Heart of Yoga “Kaveri speaks the language of the Sacred Feminine encouraging us to feel, know and trust the deepest truths within us. Her poems are songs of the heart that help us laugh, cry, and celebrate being alive…here, now.” -Dori Langevin, Psy.D, Buddhist meditation teacher All materials and images on this website are copyrighted and property of their respective owners. |
